Most Parents and Teachers in Oyo State are in a dilemma over the decision of the State Government to open schools on the 29th of June (for teachers) and the 6th of July, (for students) 2020.

This is coming amidst the ever increasing cases of covid-19 in the country, which stands at 23,298 confirmed cases (as at June 26,2020).

The Minister of State for Education, Mr Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba has described the decision by the Oyo State Government to reopen schools as insensitive. Several others have also branded the plan by the Oyo State Government as "suicidal".

The Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Olasunkanmi Olaleye, said the state government would go ahead with the plan and that the government is ready to intervene in any school and salvage the situation should a teacher or pupil become symptomatic.

School Resumption: The Students are smiling As the FG Submit Guideline To NASS For Reopening Of School

No doubts this is the news that most Nigerian student have been long waiting for following the submission of precautions and steps for reopening of schools nationwide by the federal government to the national assembly (NASS) as reviewed by minister of state for education in the person of  Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba.

We all are aware of how long schools have been closed by the government in other to prevent and take measure to rapid spread of the covi-19 (corona virus) pandemic and ever then since student have been clamoring for when news like this will come in considering the reopening of worship centers.

Chukwuemeka stated that  the ministry have submit plans to the national assembly to reopen schools nationwide as he ponder more  on how the educational sector can be moved forward in this pandemic.

Chukwuemeka  said if the Senate has not called they would have gone to them on the matter of school resumption because they have already met with house of representative.

He said the documents are presented to them so that they can also have their say as major stakeholders.

The vice chairman Akon Eyakenyi  of the committee express his  concern that the academic calendar could be affected by public schools where no arrangement have been made to teach student at home considering their private schools counterpart.

The chairman expressed his  concern  towards the issue that even when the schools in the city have access to radio and television education what about those in the village.

The  part of the statement thus;

"If the government can give guidelines for reopening of churches and mosque, stakeholders in the educational sector could also hold a meeting with the government to agree on guideline for reopening of schools".

He said all they need to do is to come up with measures for both student and teachers that will ensure safety for both of them.

He further said that they can make it in such a way that not all schools will resume at once that's to say batch by batch so they will start with the final year student and then gradually.

He added that they will also design it in such a way that they will have number of student that will go to school both morning and afternoon section.

He concluded that the ministry have to be innovative at this critical time to save the educational sector because nobody knows how far this pandemic disease is going to last.

THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT GIVES UPDATE ON THE RESUMPTION OF SCHOOLS.

A lot pressures has been layed on both State Governments and the Federal Government towards the issue on the reopening of schools in Nigeria.

Recall that schools has been closed since March this year, and till now, it's still closed.

Thus, being impatient, lots of parents and students have been speaking to the Government on the fact that schools should be reopened nationwide.

The Federal Government has earlier stated that schools will remain closed in the country until the country is able to curtail the spread of the virus.

Thus, it was stated that what is paramount to the Federal Government is the lives of citizens.

Regardless of the incessant spread of the virus, many are still keen on the reopening of schools in the country.

Some States have earlier stated that schools will be reopened this month due to the pressures placed on them by parents and students.

However, the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, has advised that they should not yield to it.

In his speech, he explained that the country is not safe yet for schools to reopen, owing to the fact that the virus keeps spreading.

Currently, the number of confirmed cases in the country has been announced to be more than 20,000 today, and thus, it'll be more dangerous for schools to reopen in such situation.

The Minister thus explained that no State has been given the guidance to reopen schools yet in the country as it is still not safe to do so.

And thus, he appealed with parents and stakeholders across the country to bear with the Federal Government towards every movement that is being made towards the reopening of schools.

He explained that what the Federal Government is after is to guarantee the safety of the children.

OMG! A MAN RAPES GIRL AND KILLS HER ELDER BROTHER IN ZAMFARA

 In Zamfara the police have confirmed the arrest of a 25-year-old man, in the person of Aminu Bala, for allegedly raping and killing his elder brothers wife in Gusau.

The command spokesperson Mohammed Shehu,   was parading the suspect on Monday, said  that Bala had already confessed to the crime.

 According Shehu, he stated that  the suspect hailed from Damaga village of Maradun Local Government area of the state.

He said, the Tudun Wada Area Command, Gusau on June 15, at about 04.30 hours, received a distress call from Damba quarters of Gusau metropolis that the suspect had killed his brothers wife.

The police quickly rushed to the scene and discovered the victim, Hauwau Iliyasu in the pool of her own blood having suffered from multiple machete cuts.

She was then immediately taken  to the Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, Gusau where she was certified dead by doctors.

The spokesman also said the police had reached out in contacting  the victims husband, Kabiru Bala via phone call.

He was not in the state, but told the police that the suspect had once threatened to kill the victim, he said.

Shehu said that the command was awaiting the arrival of the victims husband and his written statement which would form part of evidence before the suspect would be prosecuted in court.

Hauwau left behind two children including, a nine-month-old baby.
