THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT GIVES UPDATE ON THE RESUMPTION OF SCHOOLS.



A lot pressures has been layed on both State Governments and the Federal Government towards the issue on the reopening of schools in Nigeria.

Recall that schools has been closed since March this year, and till now, it's still closed.

Thus, being impatient, lots of parents and students have been speaking to the Government on the fact that schools should be reopened nationwide.

The Federal Government has earlier stated that schools will remain closed in the country until the country is able to curtail the spread of the virus.

Thus, it was stated that what is paramount to the Federal Government is the lives of citizens.

Regardless of the incessant spread of the virus, many are still keen on the reopening of schools in the country.

Although everyone is aware of the threat the virus is imposing on the lives of the citizens of this country, yet, many want the Federal Government to reopen schools.

Thus, addressing the issue on the reopening of schools in the country today Monday, 22nd June, 2020, the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, has advised all State Governments on what to do.

Speaking on behalf of the President in a briefing with the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Emeka Nwajiuba explained to Governors across the country not to yield to the pressures the people are placing on them towards the reopening of schools.

Some States have earlier stated that schools will be reopened this month due to the pressures placed on them by parents and students.

However, the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, has advised that they should not yield to it.

In his speech, he explained that the country is not safe yet for schools to reopen, owing to the fact that the virus keeps spreading.

Currently, the number of confirmed cases in the country has been announced to be more than 20,000 today, and thus, it'll be more dangerous for schools to reopen in such situation.

The Minister thus explained that no State has been given the guidance to reopen schools yet in the country as it is still not safe to do so.

And thus, he appealed with parents and stakeholders across the country to bear with the Federal Government towards every movement that is being made towards the reopening of schools.

He explained that what the Federal Government is after is to guarantee the safety of the children.
